We are often asked what the difference between the different massages that we offer are. It can be confusing, with so many options, and at Cheltenham Reflexology and Massage we want you to choose the right massage for your needs. Here’s a brief overview of the different types of massage we offer at our lovely grade 2 listed building in Cheltenham:
Swedish Massage can vary in depth from a light massage to a deep tissue massage. It can also be both a relaxing and uplifting treatment, as we modify techniques to suit your needs. We use traditional Swedish Massage techniques, including effleurage (stroking), petrissage (kneading) and tapotement (tapping) to work muscles of the body. The aim is to stimulate blood and lymph, to stretch and ease tension in muscles and to improve posture and a sense of wellbeing.
Aromatherapy Massage can also vary in pressure and we will ask you at the beginning of the treatment what you would like. Before the massage begins, you will be asked about the objectives of your treatment and an aromatherapist will chose and make an appropriate blend of base oils and essential oils, just for you. Some aromatherapy techniques include lymphatic drainage, helping the body to get rid of toxins.
Indian Head Massage can be provided with the client laying down or in a seated position. The name of this treatment can be a little confusing as it’s not just the head that is massaged. At Cheltenham Reflexology and Massage, we offer a 40 min. or 60min Indian Head Massage treatment. We will massage the upper back, neck, scalp and will also offer arm, hand and face massage (if wanted).
Hot Stone Massage is a lovely warming treatment. The therapist uses heated basalt stones, from volcanic regions, to massage over the body. The instant heat is calming and helps to loosen deep muscle fibres. Some people love hot stone massage as it provides a warm, deep massage without the feeling the discomfort that sometimes comes with a massage.
At Cheltenham Reflexology and Massage, all of our massages are bespoke. This means that we will arrange an amount of time for your treatment and at the beginning, ask where your problem areas are. One person may choose to have a 60 minute massage on their back, neck and shoulders and another person might choose to focus on the back, scalp, legs and arms.
