Aromatherapy has been used for thousands of years. Different ‘essences’ from a large variety of plants form what we commonly know as ‘essential oils’. These essences are made up of hundreds of natural chemical constituents. It is these elements that give the essential oils their properties that can help to improve our well-being.
Aromatherapy massage is fantastic as it allows the use of essential and base oils as well as the effects of the massage to work on the body altogether, creating a synergistic treatment. At the beginning of your Aromatherapy Massage treatment you will be taken through a consultation process. You will be able to highlight the main reasons for your treatment and the Aromatherapist will then select key oils to blend and then to massage into your skin.
Essential oils are volatile and made up of tiny molecules that are absorbed into the skin quickly. They are also small enough to be transported into your bloodstream and even into brain cells. The parts of the oil and the properties they have work in a similar way to a medical patch, like nicotine patches, whereby chemicals are absorbed into the skin and bloodstream.
Aromatherapy massage can be gentle and be focussed on lymphatic drainage, as well as relief of muscular tension. At Cheltenham Reflexology and Massage, we are able to mix firmer massage movements into your massage if you prefer. Your blend and preferred pressure will be discussed with your therapist before your treatment begins.
