Facial Treatments

facial rejuvination

We love facials at ‘ProFacials’, at Cheltenham Reflexology and Massage. We recently spent many hours researching different skin care brands and although we have loved using Dermalogica for the past 5 years, we felt like it was time for a new opportunity.  We have selected Eve Taylor skin care products as we love their ethos, including:

  • natural products
  • effective products that get desired results
  • not tested on animals
  • affordable ranges
  • aromatherapy ingredients
  • ‘a little goes a long way’ and feels good to use

At the beginning of each treatment, we look at your skin through a magnifying lamp so we can see how it is performing. We look for areas of oiliness, dryness, dehydration and sensitivity, as well as the overall tone of the skin. It is only then that we choose the right products for your skin. We have 5 different cleansers to choose from alone!

We have numerous professional prescriptive treatments on offer and can treat young adults/teenagers as well as adults:

  • Professional customised prescriptive facial treatment (Essential Pro60)
  • Express facial treatment (Essential Pro30)
  • Facial with LED light therapy
  • Tween/Teen skin – Congested skin/Acne
  • Micro-current – muscle tightening
  • Radio frequency – skin clearing and tightening
  • Micro-dermabrasion

We begin every treatment with a skin analysis. We look at your skin through a magnifying lamp and discuss your current skin care regime and skin needs.

We then follow a course of treatment, which may include the following:

  • double cleansing
  • toning
  • professional level exfoliation
  • blackhead extraction, with steaming
  • facial massage
  • application of an appropriate serum
  • application of a nourishing, hydrating or purifying mask
  • moisturiser

Along with an uplifting facial massage, we like to offer massage of the neck and shoulders, plus an additional massage of your scalp, when time allows.

We see our facial treatments as holistic and our aim is that you will feel rested, refreshed and uplifted as a result of this treatment, as well as your skin feeling nourished and revitalised.

Using electrical modalities in facial treatments is very popular.  Most electrical machinery was originally designed to aid the medical world. For instance, electrical muscle stimulation was initially used for patient’s with Bell’s Palsy.

ProFacials, at Cheltenham reflexology and Massage, have invested in our facial electrotherapy equipment and have quality machines that make a real difference.

The treatments we offer with this equipment are:

  • Diamond Micro-dermabrasion for high-level exfoliation
  • Facial contouring with Micro-current & Radio Frequency
  • Lymphatic drainage with Vacuum Suction to promote healthy exchange of cellular waste & fresh blood & nutrients
  • LED Phototherapy (Light Therapy) for anti-ageing, clearing/anti-bacterial and soothing
  • Galvanic treatments
  • High Frequency treatments
  • Ultrasonic

There are two ways to receive these treatments:

  1. Choose the shorter mini treatments, where one treatment is provided for 30-50 minutes.
  2. Choose the bespoke combination treatment, where after consultation & discussion, we select the best combination of treatment for your needs.  These treatments last either 60 minutes or 105 minutes.

*Additional Radio Frequency charge of £15 per treatment

  • Before we offer treatments with electrotherapy equipment, we ask that you visit us for an Essential ProFacial treatment first.  We can use this treatment for a full consultation, including seeing how your skin responds to different elements of the treatment.  We can also prepare your skin for the next level of treatment.

Facial Treatments using LED       (Light Emitting Diode)

Please find out more on our dedicated LED therapy page here.

The use of LED light in facial treatments is often referred to as ‘Light Therapy’ or ‘photo-rejuvenation’. The lights stimulate a response in the skin, including killing bacteria within it or strengthening and regenerating it.

LED light stimulates the production of ATP, an essential energy source for the body’s cells (namely the mitochondria).  The light excites the mitochondria and it is believed that when it travels deep into the layers of the skin it allows the production of 10 times more ATP than usual in the mitochondria. As we age, our levels or ATP are significantly reduced and our body’s ways of keeping up with demand can result in the production of more free radicals, that in turn cause cellular damage.  The cell’s mitochondria can also decrease as they die off after mutations occur.  The body does not store vast quantities of ATP, so we need to have continuous supplies of it.  Light is a great solution to low ATP reserves.

LED light is very different to UV light. We know that the sun’s rays (UV) can be very damaging to skin, increasing signs of ageing with visual changes including increased wrinkles, fine lines and pigmentation.  UV light is also believed to damage cells that can lead to skin cancer.

Scientific studies have shown that controlled levels of LED light can actually be beneficial to the skin.  Blue and red light are absorbed by the skin & are known to have therapeutic properties. This is because the energy from the LED light stimulates activities in the cells, promoting a healing response.

The benefits of using LED include:

  • Reduction in signs of ageing, including lines/wrinkles
  • Reduction in inflammatory skin conditions, such as Rosacea & acne
  • Increase in collagen and elastin production, strengthening the skin
  • Destroys bacteria
  • Improves skin tone/clarity and texture by normalising cellular imbalance
  • Improves circulation & flow of oxygen, aiding waste elimination and improved capillary exchange
  • Stimulates production of serotonin, melatonin and endorphins, increasing happy feelings
  • Reduction in marks on skin, including acne scarring
  • Normalising oil glands
  • Brightening and clearing the skin

Who is LED treatment suitable for?

LED treatment is suitable for all skin types.  This type of treatment is also ideal for younger skins, especially those suffering with acne.  There are no side effects and the lights do not produce harmful light that is hot or damaging to the skin.

Will one treatment help?

The optimum treatment pathway is two uses per week.  One treatment will give the skin a boost but if you are struggling with acne or inflammation or want to reduce signs of ageing you will want to follow a course of treatments.

What is the difference between Red LED light and Blue light?

Blue light is used for inflamed skin and acne. The light is absorbed by the molecule Porphyrin. This is found in the bacteria in skin pores and cells (P-acnes) and is the cause of acne. LED light is effective as it creates free radicals, neutralising/killing the bacterial cells. Blue LED can decongest the skin as well as normalise the production of sebum, the skin’s natural oil.  As a result of killing bacteria, skin pores can shrink and future breakouts can be prevented.

Red light can be used with blue light. We use a purple light in this instance. In the case of acne, red light can be soothing as it provides an anti-inflammatory response. Combination lights (purple) can also be great for irritated skin.

Red light is proven to stimulate the production of collagen and elastin.  These are important elements in providing strength and elasticity to the skin.  The wavelengths that produce red light are known for their wound healing properties.  This is therefore also useful to improve skin texture, fine lines and deep tissue healing. With is high nanometre range, red light can travel deeper into the skin than blue light.
